Adopt-a-Tree for Christmas

Posted 12.12.11

Lawn Wrangler is excited to announce that we are participating in the “Adopt A Tree” holiday tree program. “Adopt A Tree” provides free Christmas trees to families in need through the generous donations of local landscape contractors, wholesale nurseries and retail garden centers. The idea was conceived by landscape design/build contractor, Jody Shilan of JodyShilan Designs, LLC located in Wyckoff NJ. He has had wonderful success with it in his local community but has always wanted to expand Adopt A Tree to a larger audience. Now as principle and editor of FromDesign2Build.com, a members only website for landscape contractors, he is using the power of the internet and “social media” to ask his membership to take “Adopt A Tree” to the next level and promote it throughout the US and maybe even abroad.  “About 2 or 3 days before Christmas, around the 22nd or 23rd, most Christmas tree vendors close up shop so that they can spend time at home with their families for the holidays. Prior to closing for the season, they take the leftover or unsold trees, and put them into a wood chipper turning them into mulch. One day I thought to myself, wouldn’t it be great if there was some way to bring these unwanted Christmas trees to families who would really appreciate them but could not afford one?” So “Adopt A Tree” was conceived. When asked about the name Shilan remarked, “When you really think about it the name “Adopt A Tree” makes perfect sense. The family receiving the tree is actually “adopting” it into their home and giving it a place to stay for the holidays. It truly had nowhere to go.”

We are very excited about this opportunity to be working with such a wonderful cause and have the ability to “give back” to others during this time of need. Our employees and suppliers can’t wait to get started and are already volunteering to help.  We look forward to doing this every year!

Big thanks to Campbell’s Tree Stand on Generals Highway (across from Ramshead) in Crownsville.  They donated over a dozen trees a few days early.
